Mikhail Sinkevich

Conductor

Born in Moscow in 1969, Mikhail Sinkevich graduated from the St. Petersburg Conservatory in 1990 (choral conducting faculty) and in 1994 (opera/symphony conducting faculty, class of Prof. I. Musin)

From 1992 - 1994 he conducted at the St. Petersburg State Children?s Music Theatre, Zazerkalye and at the State Music Theatre of the Rimsky Korsakov Conservatory.

From 1994 v 1997 he was conductor of the National Academic Opera and Ballet Theatre of White Russia and, among others, he conducted works by Mozart (Die Zauberflote, Le nozze di Figaro), Rossini (The Barber of Seville), Verdi (La traviata, Aida), Puccini (Madama Butterfly), Rimsky Korsakov (The Tsar?s Bride, Mozart and Salieri), Borodin (Prince Igor). In addition to his activities as an opera conductor, he also conducted ballet works such as Tchaikovsky?s Nutcracker and Stravinsky?s Firebird. With the ensemble he toured to the Netherlands, Germany and Switzerland.

In 1996 he conducted the production of Donizetti?s "Il campanello di notte" at the St. Petersburg Chamber Opera Theatre.

In 1997 he was appointed Principal Guest Conductor of the State Music Theatre of Belorus (White Russia), where he conducted the main repertoire of the theatre (both opera and ballet) - a post he held until 2000. He conducted the company on various tours to Germany, the Netherlands and Switzerland. During the same period he also conducted numerous concerts at the State Academic Symphony Orchestra of Belorus and toured with the orchestra to Switzerland and Germany.

In 1999 Mikhail Sinkevich participated in the Putbus Festival, Germany and in 1999/2000 season he was repeatedly invited to conduct at the Opera Theatre of Perm and Novosibirsk.

Upon the invitation of Maestro Valery Gergiev, he joined the Mariinsky Theatre in 2000. Since then he has conducted works by Wagner (Das Rheingold, Die Walkure, Die Fliegende Hollander), Strauss (Salome), Verdi (Un ballo in maschera, Macbeth, La forza del destino), Mozart (Le nozze di Figaro), Puccini (Madama Butterfly, Turandot), Donizetti (Lucia di Lammermoor), Tchaikovsky (The Queen of Spades), Rimsky-Korsakov (Sadko), Shostakovitch (Lady Macbeth of the Mtsensk District) and Ludwig Minkus‘s ballet La Bayadere. He also conducted various concerts with the leading soloists of the theatre.

In the summer of 2001, Mikhail Sinkevtich took part in the Salzburg Festival, as musical assistant to Valery Gergiev in Peter Mussbach?s production of Shostakovitch?s Lady Macbeth of the Mtsensk District with the Vienna Philharmonic and the Chorus of the Mariinsky Theatre.
In October 2001 he gave his debut at the Melbourne Festival, conducting a performance of Strauss? Salome (production of the Mariinsky Theatre).
Took part in the Mariinsky Ballet Company?s tours to the Metropolitan Opera (New York) in July 2002, where he conducted performances of La Bayadere (revival of the 1900 production) and Jewels.
