Soloist Elena Stikhina (soprano) of the Primorsky Stage of the Mariinsky Theatre has become a prize-winner at the Operalia international opera singers’ competition

On 25 July the Teatro Degollado (Guadalajara, Mexico) hosted the prize-giving ceremony for the XXIV Operalia international opera singers’ competition. Soloist Elena Stikhina (soprano) of the Primorsky Stage of the Mariinsky Theatre was presented with the Audience Award and the special CulturArte Prize.

The Operalia international opera singers’ competition was founded in 1993 by the internationally acclaimed tenor and conductor Plácido Domingo. The event is one of the most prestigious vocal competitions in the world today. Each year it is held in a different location – it has previously been held in Paris, Mexico City, Madrid, Bordeaux, Hamburg, Los Angeles, Washington, Valencia, Quebec, Budapest, Tokyo, Milan, Moscow, Beijing, Verona and London. Over the years, competition prize-winners have included Inva Mula, Joyce DiDonato, Rolando Villazón, Stéphane Degout, Nina Stemme, Sonya Yoncheva, José Cura, Olga Peretyatko and Aida Garifullina among others.

Elena Stikhina is a recipient of the Yamaha Scholarship Award and a diploma-recipient and prize-winner at Russian and international competitions such as the XXI Flame international competition (Paris, France), the international Competizione dell’Opera (Linz, Austria); has taken part in the festivalsBeethovenfest (Bonn, Germany) and OpernWerkstatt (Sigriswil, Switzerland).
