ABOUT THE CONCERT
Gala-closing of the anniversary edition of the CONTEXT. Diana Vishneva festival on the historic scene of the Mariinsky Theatre will present a collection of works created by the timeliest choreographers of modern times.
A special guest of the Saint Petersburg programme is Dutch National Ballet. The spectators will enjoy the Russian premiere of Piano Concerto №1 by one of the major Russian neo-classical choreographers Alexey Ratmansky set to music by Dmitri Shostakovich and of the work Sarcasm created by Hans van Manen, who celebrates his 85th birthday this year.
The guests will get a chance to see the world premiere of a new work Asunder by the Resident choreographer of Nuremberg Ballet, Goyo Montero, created for the festival CONTEXT. Diana Vishneva in collaboration with artists of Perm Opera and Ballet Theatre.
The evening will show the work by Wayne McGregor Witness presented by a duet of international ballet stars: Herman Cornejo and legendary ballerina, Alessandra Ferri, who came back on the scene at the age of 50 four years ago.
Guests in Saint Petersburg will also see the work by Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui I will Fall for You performed by Drew Jacoby to music by Woodkid, ballet Chutes and Ladders by one of the most sought-after young US choreographers Justin Peck and the Russian debut of the main Los Angeles-based contemporary dance company BODYTRAFFIC. The end of the evening will be marked by the final pas-de-deux from the Sleeping Beauty created by Goyo Montero and performed by the festival founder Diana Vishneva in a duet with the Nuremberg Ballet soloist Oscar Alonso.
