Clarniettist and Conductor
• Prize-winner at the ARD Competition (Munich) in the “woodwind quintet” category and at other international music competitions in St Petersburg, Moscow, Bucharest and Tokyo
• Recipient of the Grand Prix at the Novosibirsk International Music Festival for his performance of Mozart’s Clarinet Concerto
Born in Leningrad (St Petersburg), he began his musical studies at the age of eight. Graduated from the St Petersburg State Rimsky-Korsakov Conservatoire (clarinet class of Professor Valery Bezruchenko) and the Hochschule fьr Musik Detmold (class of Professor Hans-Dietrich Klaus). He has taken part in master classes given by Anthony Pay, Franзois Benda and Alessandro Carbonare in addition to attending courses given by Aurele Nicolet and Andrбs Schiff. In 2013 he graduated from the St Petersburg Conservatoire as a symphonic conductor (studied under Alexander Polischuk, Vasily Sinaisky and Alexander Titov).
Soloist with the Mariinsky Theatre Orchestra since 1999. Together with the Orchestra he frequently performs on tour under maestro Gergiev. As a soloist he has collaborated with orchestras including the Mariinsky Theatre Symphony Orchestra, the Novosibirsk Philharmonic, the St Petersburg State Academic Cappella and the Tokyo and Bogotб Philharmonic Orchestras. He performs in solo recitals and in concerts of chamber music as well as giving master classes in Russia, Germany, Finland, Israel, Japan, the USA and Colombia. He teaches at the St Petersburg Rimsky-Korsakov Music College.
Since 2008 Ivan Stolbov has been the representative of the company RICO in Russia.
