Mariusz Trelinski

Polish film, theatre and opera director Mariusz Trelinski made his film debut in 1990 with Farewell to Autumn, which was premiered at the Venice Film Festival and won the Andrzej Munk Award and a Ministry of Culture and Art Award for Best Debut. Served as Artistic Director of the Karol Irzykowski Studio for two years before leaving to pursue his directorial career. His film The Gentle Creature based on novels by Dostoyevsky premiered at the Gdynia Feature Film Festival in 1995. His next triumph came with the film Egoist (2001).

He made his opera debut in 1999 at the Polish National Opera in Warsaw with Madama Butterfly. His Madama Butterfly, staged in October 2001 in Washington for a US company, brought him great acclaim from both the public and critics, and opened the doors to many of the world?s opera houses. Mariusz Trelinski has worked with such renowned conductors as Kent Nagano, Placido Domingo, Daniel Barenboim and Kazimir Kord. He has directed productions of King Roger, Otello, Eugene Onegin, Don Giovanni, The Queen of Spades, Andrea Chenier (Polish National Opera, Warsaw), Don Giovanni (Los Angeles Opera), The Queen of Spades (Staatsoper, Berlin) and Andrea Chenier (Washington National Opera). Madama Butterfly is his first work at the Mariinsky Theatre.
Mariusz Trelinski was presented with the 2001 Karol Szymanowski Award for his staging of King Roger at the Polish National Opera.
