Vladimir Begletsov graduated from three faculties of the St Petersburg State Conservatoire: piano (class of Professor Vladimir Nielsen), choral conducting and opera symphony (class of Professor Vladislav Chernushenko). He was a prize-winner at the International Yehudi Menuhin Foundation Symphony Conductors’ Competition (1992).
Since 2004 he has been Artistic Director of the Smolny Cathedral Chamber Chorus. From 1985–2004 Vladimir Begletsov was a conductor of the St Petersburg State Glinka Cappella, while from 1991–2007 he was Artistic Director and Principal Conductor of the Boys’ Choir of the Glinka Choral School and, from 1996–1998, a conductor of the St Petersburg State Symphony Orchestra.
From 2002-2006 he was a senior lecturer at the St Petersburg State Rimsky-Korsakov Conservatoire; frequently gives master-classes.
In March 2014 Vladimir Begletsov was appointed Director of the Glinka Choral School, and in September 2014 he began to work with the Boys’ Chorus of the Glinka Choral School once more.
As a guest conductor, the musician has appeared with numerous ensembles including the Academic Symphony Orchestra of the St Petersburg Philharmonic, the Symphony Orchestra of the St Petersburg State Academic Cappella, the State Hermitage Orchestra, the Slovenian Radio and TV Symphony Orchestra), the Bucharest Philharmonic (Romania), Europa Cantat (Estonia, Germany), the Sinfonietta de Picardie (France), One Orchestra, the Symphony Orchestra of the Podlasie Opera and Philharmonic (Poland), the Krasnodar Philharmonic Orchestra, the Musica Viva chamber orchestra (Moscow), the Moravian Philharmonic Orchestra (Czech Republic), the Gubernatorial Orchestra of St Petersburg, the St Petersburg State Academic Symphony Orchestra and the St Petersburg Soloists chamber ensemble.
Has collaborated with Gennady Rozhdestvensky, Valery Gergiev, Yuri Temirkanov, Saulius Sondeckis, Nikolai Alexeev, Alexander Dmitriev, Valentin Nesterov, Ravil Martynov, Alexander Titov, Boris Tishchenko, Sergei Slonimsky, Zurab Sotkilava, Irina Arkhipova, Nicolai Gedda, Irina Bogacheva, Olga Borodina, Ildar Abdrazakov, Gennady Bezzubenkov, Yuri Marusin and Carmen Balthrop among numerous other acclaimed musicians.
Has conducted premiere performances of numerous works by Krzysztof Penderecki, Georgy Sviridov, Leonid Desyatnikov, Anatoly Korolyov and Alexander Knaifel among other famed composers.
