Alexei Markov
Baritone
Alexey Markov was born in Vyborg (Russia).
In 2001 joined the Academy of the Young Singers of the Mariinsky Theatre as a soloist.
In 2004 he won the 1st prize at the VI International Rimsky-Korsakov Vocal Competition in St. Petersburg.
In 2005 he was given the 1st prize at the IV International Obraztsova Competition.
Also among his awards are the 2nd prize of the International Competition Competizione dell` Opera in Drezden (2006).
Recently he won the 1st prize at the International Competition named after Stanislav Monyushko in Warsaw (2007).
His repertoire includes: Onegin in
Eugene Onegin, Iago in
Otello, Escamillo in
Carmen, Tomsky in
Pique Dame/Queen of Spades, Giorgio Germont in
Traviata, Don Carlo in
La Forza del Destino, Rodrigo in
Don Carlos, Robert in
Iolanta, Leonel in
Giovanna d`Arco, Don Carlos in
Stone Guest. He has performed with solo concerts in Finland, Germany, Great Britain, France, Austria and Turkey. He has also taken part in various concert programs at the Carnegie Hall (USA) and Wigmore Hall (UK), Tchaikovsky Hall (Russia).
Highlights of Alexey Markov`s 2006–2007 season include Tomsky (Pique Dame/Queen of Spades) at the Frankfurt Opera, Iago (new production of Otello) at the SemperOper in Dresden, Renato (new production of Un Ballo in Maschera, season 2007–2008) and various roles with the Mariinsky Theater.
