Born in Alexandrovsk, Perm Region. Graduated from the Leningrad State Rimsky-Korsakov Conservatoire in 1982 (class of Professor Serval).
Mariinsky Theatre soloist since 1991.

Has toured with the Mariinsky Opera Company to Spain, Italy, the USA (Metropolitan Opera), Japan, the UK and Austria (at the Graz Music Festival he performed as Yeletsky in The Queen of Spades). He has performed in France, Belgium, Germany, Luxemburg, the Netherlands, Finland, Portugal and Turkey.
