Graduated from the Secondary Arts School of the Leningrad State Repin Academic Institute in 1956.
Graduated from the Leningrad State Repin Academic Institute in 1962 (theatre workshop of Professor Bobyshev).
From 1962 – 1965 worked at the Russian Drama Theatre in Vilnius (Lithuania).
From 1965 – 1969 was Principal Designer with the Youth Theatre in Vilnius.
From 1969 – 1971 was a designer with the State Academic Theatre of Opera and Ballet in Vilnius.
From 1971 – 1976 and from 1978 – 1981 was Principal Designer with the Leningrad State Academic Akimov Comedy Theatre.
From 1976 – 1978 was Principal Designer with the Leningrad State Academic Komissarzhevskaya Drama Theatre.
From 1981 – 1989 was Principal Designer with the State Academic Kirov Theatre (Mariinsky), where he worked on the operas Don Pasquale (staged by Yuri Alexandrov), The Queen of Spades and Eugene Onegin (staged by Yuri Temirkanov), Boris Godunov (staged by Boris Pokrovsky) and Mayakovskyґs Debut and the ballets Giselle, Swan Lake and The Angara. He specially designed the ballet La Bayadиre for a tour to Greece.
In 2003 he designed Ostrovsky‘s play The Forest for the Comйdie Franзaise (Paris).
In 2005 as part of a Russian Culture Ministry project he designed the sets for Rimsky-Korsakovґs The Snow Maiden at the Ufa Opera House.
He has worked with theatres in St Petersburg, Moscow, Minsk, Kiev, Baku, Tallinn and Poland, where he has designed over one hundred and fifty productions in various genres.
