Michael Spyres was born in Mansfield, Missouri U.S.A. where he grew up in a family of musicians. He began his musical studies with his parents whom are both music teachers and singers. In 2002 the Governor of Missouri presented Michael and his family the award of “Most Musical Family”. Mr. Spyres went on to study at SMSU in Springfield, Missouri U.S.A. under Dr. Robert Mirshak. He was a Young Artist with Opera Theatre Saint Louis. As a young artist he worked with the acclaimed director Colin Grahm and his esteemed colleague Stephen Lord. Shortly there after he made his main stage operatic debut with Opera Theatre Saint Louis in 2002 as Rodolfo in La Boheme. He has performed such roles as The Duke, Guglielmo, Rodolfo, Le Dancaire and Elder Hayes. Mr. Spyres is a three-time winner of the Midwest Metropolitan National Council Auditions and winner of the Midwest MacAllister Awards. In addition to singing throughout the Midwest of the U.S.A he has performed as a soloist in Austria, Belgium, Croatia, France, Germany, Italy, Slovenia, and South Africa. He has also been a soloist with such choirs as the World Youth Choir, World Chamber Choir, and the Arnold Schцnberg Chor. Mr. Spyres most recently made two important debuts, Jaquino in Teatro San Carlo’s production of Fidelio and as the tenor soloist in Michael Tippett’s oratatorio “A Child of Our Time” at the famed Musikverein in Vienna.
