Tenor

Graduated from the Gnesin Russian Academy of Music (Yevgeny Belov’s class) in 1993. He was a soloist with Moscow’s Novaya Opera Company (1990-96), Nice Opera (1994-96), and with Royal Danish Opera (1996-99).
Since
2001, he has been appearing at the Bolshoi Theatre.

In 2006, he sang the Pretender at Brussels’ Theatre de la Monnaie (conductor Kazushi Ono, director Klaus Michael Gruber), Alfredo at the Polish National Opera and Don Antonio in Betrothal in a Monastery at the Glyndebourne Festival. In the same year, he took part in a performance of Rakhmaninov’s The Bells at the Royal Alvert Hall in London (London Philharmonic, conductor Vladimir Jurowski).
In 2007, he sang the Pretender at Teatro Real (Madrid) and appeared with Giuseppe Verdi Symphony Orchestra directed by Vladimir Jurowski in Milan.
In 2008, he performed Don Antonio in Betrothal in a Monastery at the the Palau de les Arts Reina Sofia (Valencia) and the Prince in Rusalka in Cologne (Cologne Radio Symphony Orchestra, conductor Mikhail Jurowski).
In 2009, he sang Andrei (Mazeppa) at the Opera Ireland, took part in a performance of Mendelssohn Bartholdy’s Die erste Walpurgisnacht/The First Walpurgis Night in Pamplona and Rossini’s Stabat Mater in Lisbon.
In 2010 he appeared at the Savonlinna Opera Festival as Jose (Carmen).

Recent engagements have included Sergei in Lady Macbeth Of Mtsensk with the New Israeli Opera (2010-11), Radames in Aida at the Cologne Opera, Lensky in Eugene Onegin with Los Angeles Opera, Verdi Requiem with the Noord Nederlandse Orkest, Rachmaninov’s Songs for Tenor and Orchestra with the Norrköping Symphony Orchestra (2011); Don José in Carmen with the Teatro Bellini Catania, Don Alvaro in La Forza del Destino at the Cologne Opera (2012); Prince Vasiliy Golitsin in Khovanshchina at Paris National Opera (2013).
