Violin soloist
Born in Bucharest, Romania in 1962. At the age of four he began playing the violin. Later studied with Professor Єtefan Gheorghiu at the Bucharest Conservatoire. During his studies he also conducted a student orchestra. On graduating with distinction, he became a leader with the Finnish National Opera in Helsinki. There he also conducted a variety of chamber orchestras. In 1992 he joined the Munich Philharmonic Orchestra as first concertmaster. Has worked as a concertmaster and soloist with renowned conductors such as Daniel Barenboim, Semyon Bychkov, Dmitry Kitayenko, Lorin Maazel, Christian Thielemann and Valery Gergiev. As a soloist he has also given concerts with Sergio Celibidache and Zubin Mehta. As concertmaster he is frequently invited to perform with the Bayerische Staatsoper and various radio-broadcasting corporations such as Bayerischer Rundfunk, WDR, MDR, SWR and NDR. Following the death of Maestro Celibidache he founded the Celibidache Trio. He has also performed chamber music with the Philharmonische Oktett Berlin and the Berlin Philharmonic Virtuosos since 2000. Under Zubin Mehta he performed Brahms’ Violin Concert with the Munich Philharmonic Orchestra in 1994. A recording of this performance is available on CD. There is also a video recording of this concerto, conducted by Sergiu Celibidache. He is frequently invited to teach as a guest professor at the Conservatorio in San Sebastian in Spain, and is concertmaster and soloist with the San Sebastian Orquesta.
