Mathieu Ganio (Opera National de Paris)

Born in 1984 in Marseille, Mathieu Ganio began his dance studies aged seven.

From 1992-1999 he trained at the Ecole Nationale Superieure de Danse in Marseille. While still a student, Roland Petit selected him to perform a solo in the Schoolґs annual performance as well as the lead role in his version of The Nutcracker at the Opera de Marseille.

In 1999 he entered the Ecole de Danse de l‘Opera de Paris (second division), where he danced his first solo roles in the ballets Yondering (John Neumeier, 2000) and Coppelia (as Frantz in Pierre Lacotte‘s 2001 revival).

In 2001 at the age of seventeen he was engaged by the corps de ballet of the Opera de Paris.
In 2002 he was made a Coryphee.
In 2003 he was made a Sujet.

Yuri Grigorovich selected him to perform the role of Kurbsky in Ivan the Terrible at the Opera Bastille.

On 20 May 2004 after his performance in Don Quixote (as Basilio) Mathieu Ganio was made an Etoile. He has since added the role of James in Pierre Lacotte‘s La Sylphide to his repertoire.
