Soprano

The Greek soprano Dimitra Theodossiou following the great success of her interpretation of the role of Odabella in Verdi’s ATTILA at Teatro Comunale in Bologna and Teatro Regio in Parma, April/May 1999, is considered as one of the most exciting and important voices for Verdi- and Belcanto-Repertoire. She sung the role of Odabella again at Teatro Verdi in Trieste (2000), at Teatro del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino (2001), at the Oper Frankfurt (2000), at the Greek National Opera in Athens (2001), at the Royal Opera House Covent Garden in London, February 2002, a debut which was enthusiastically received by the audience and recently (2004) at Gran Teatro La Fenice in Venice and 2005 at Teatro dell’Opera di Roma.
During the last six years the soprano, who is studying with Birgit Nickl in Munich, has confirmed her gift for Verdi and Belcanto interpretation and her ability to captivate the audience when singing the roles of Lina (STIFFELIO) in Piacenza, Lisbon and Trieste, LUCIA DI LAMMERMOOR in Messina, NORMA in Athens, Tokyo, St. Petersburg, Catania, Verona, Kassel, Modena, Ferrara, Livorno and Piacenza, Giselda (I LOMBARDI ALLA PRIMA CROCIATA) in Santiago de Chile, Cremona and in various other Italian Opera Houses, at Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, ANNA BOLENA at Teatro San Carlo in Naples, at Teatro Donizetti in Bergamo and at the National Opera in Munich, Elvira (ERNANI) at Teatro Real in Madrid, Leonora (IL TROVATORE) at Teatro alla Scala in Milan, at Teatro dell'Opera in Rome, at the Opera de Monte Carlo, at Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, at Arena di Verona, in Athens, in Baltimore and Teatro Comunale di Bologna, Desdemona (OTELLO) at Teatro Municipal de Sгo Paulo in Brasil , at the Gran Teatro La Fenice in Venice, at Teatro Sгo Carlos in Lisbon, Elisabetta (DON CARLO) at Teatro San Carlo in Naples, at the Opera House of Zurich and Budapest and Teatro dellґOpera di Roma, Violetta (LA TRAVIATA) in Athens, at Teatro dell'Opera in Rome, at Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, on tour with the Gran Teatro La Fenice in Japan and in Seoul, Amalia (I MASNADIERI) at Teatro Massimo in Palermo, La Monnaie in Brussels and at the Konzerthaus in Vienna.
Furthermore she had the opportunity to sing Verdi’s REQUIEM in London, Paris, Toulouse, Rome, Genoa, Bologna, Assisi and Milan on the occasion of Verdi’s Centenary.
Dimitra Theodossiou has worked with some of the most important conductors in the world, amongst others R.Muti, R.Abbado, G.L.Gelmetti, M.Elder, M.Viotti, V.Gergiev, R.Chailly, F.Luisi, R.Tolomelli, P.Steinberg, E.Pidт, P.Carignani, T.Severini, N.Luisotti, C.Rizzi, D.Callegari, D.Renzetti, I.Karabtschewski, Z.Pesko, A.Cavallaro, B.De Billy, G.Bertini, M. Letonia, A.Pirolli, R.Palumbo, B.Campanella.
At the beginning her carrier the soprano has won a lot of important International Competitions like “Belvedere”, “Operalia”, “Viotti”, “Di Stefano”; in January 2002 in Milan she was voted best soprano of the Verdi Centenary Year for her outstanding performances in interpreting Verdi’s operas (”Verdi d’Oro”); 2003 she was awarded with the "Premio Cittа di Mondovм" as best Soprano-Voice. 2006 she was awarded with the "Premio Associazione Parma Lirica" in Parma and with the "Premio Monteverdi" in Cremona.
Her 2002 - engagements have brought her to Japan (solo concerts and productions), to the Arena di Verona (IL TROVATORE) and to Copenhagen (IL TROVATORE). Further she was acclaimed as Violetta in LA TRAVIATA at Teatro do Sгo Carlos in Lisbon together with Giuseppe Sabbatini and had her debut as Suzel in LґAMICO FRITZ with Jose' Bros in Livorno and Pisa. She also sung the Verdi’s REQUIEM in Frankfurt, Budapest and Athens.
In 2003 she worked with Riccardo Muti at Teatro alla Scala interpreting the role of Lucrezia in the new production of I DUE FOSCARI, and then she went on first to Corea for singing LA TRAVIATA in Seoul and then to Japan, in June-July 2003, for the Japanese Tour of Teatro Bellini di Catania of NORMA, a tour which was enthusiastically received by the Japanese audiences. The same production of NORMA was on tour in St. Petersburg as well. Furthermore she was Amalia in I MASNADIERI at the Konzerthaus in Vienna and Theatre La Monnaie in Brussels, Mimм in LA BOHИME in Seoul.
In January 2004 she made her Italian debut as NORMA at Teatro Filarmonico di Verona directed by Hugo De Ana. During the summer 2004 she interpreted Leonora in Zeffirelli’s IL TROVATORE at the Arena di Verona and Teatro Comunale di Bologna, on occasion of the Olympic Games she was Rhea in the homonymous opera of the Greek composer Samara at the Herodius Attikus in Athens and in September she sung in the Verdi’s REQUIEM in Genoa.
In January 2005 she had a very successful debut in the role of Cherubiniґs MEDEA in Lisbon at Teatro do Sгo Carlos followed by ATTILA at Teatro dell’Opera di Roma as well as in Japan with Gran Teatro La Fenice, NORMA at Teatro Bellini di Catania, IL TROVATORE at Teatro Comunale di Bologna, Afterwards she was engaged at Maggio Musicale Fiorentino with the role of Giselda in Verdi’s I LOMBARDI ALLA PRIMA CROCIATA under the baton of Roberto Abbado and then with the role of Violetta in LA TRAVIATA under the baton of Renato Palumbo.
2006 she debuted Elisabetta in ROBERTO DEVEREUX at Teatro delle Muse in Ancona and at Festival Donizetti in Bergamo. Both her interpretations have been highly acclaimed by the audience and the critics. She interpreted the role of NORMA at the Theatres of Modena, Ferrara, Piacenza and Livorno as well as in Palermo. Afterwards she was NORMA with Teatro Bellini di Catania in a successful Tour in Japan; Elisabetta (DON CARLO - Visconti Production) and Desdemona (OTELLO) in Athens.
2007 she was the only Soprano singing the New Year Concert at Gran Teatro La Fenice in Venice (Rai -Rai Trade TV and Arte France TV - Eurovision Broadcasting). Afterwards, ANNA BOLENA in Tour in Japan with Teatro Donizetti of Bergamo, a Solo-Recital and an acclaimed debut of Abigaille in NABUCCO at Teatro delle Muse in Ancona.
In March 2007 she was NORMA at Teatro Bellini in Catania and in April Odabella (ATTILA) with the Toscanini Foundation in Piacenza, Modena and Ferrara. In May 2007 her debut in MACBETH (Lady Macbeth) was highly acclaimed at Teatro Sгo Carlos in Lisbon. Afterwards she interpreted NORMA at the Arena Sferisterio in Macerata and then she was awarded with the “Premio Tiberini d’Oro alla carriera”.
In september 2007 she was the only Soprano singing the “Omaggio a Maria Callas”-Concert at Gran Teatro La Fenice in Venice (Rai Trade TV). She debuted then BIANCA E FERNANDO (role Bianca) by Bellini at the Festival Bellini in Catania (DVD-recorded).
The season 2007-2008 started with a USA Concert-Tour with Teatro Bellini followed by a Japanese Tour with TRAVIATA. She had then her debut in the role of LUCREZIA BORGIA at the Festival Donizetti in Bergamo as well as in the role of Margherita/Elena in Boito’s MEFISTOFELE at Teatro Massimo di Palermo (January 2008). She went back to Catania for singing the role of Leonora in TROVATORE at Teatro Bellini in Catania.
In April 2008 she had a very successful debut at Teatro Regio in Turin in the title role of LUCREZIA BORGIA, Maestro Bruno Campanella conducting, soon after she returned to Teatro San Carlo, Naples for Verdi’s LOMBARDI ALLA PRIMA CROCIATA as Giselda.
In June 2008 she recorded In London the role of Delizia in CORRADO DI ALTAMURA by Ricci for Opera Rara. After her successful debut in the role of Cleopatra in CLEOPATRA by Lauro Rossi for the Sferisterio Opera Festival, Maestro Pier Luigi Pizzi directing, she was invited to sing the Verdiґs REQUIEM ad memoriam Maestro Luciano Pavarotti at the Teatro Luciano Pavarotti in Modena (radio RAI 3). After her Italian debut as Lady MACBETH at Teatro Verdi di Pisa, she was warmly welcomed back to Teatro Regio di Parma as Giselda in Verdis I LOMBARDI ALLA PRIMA CROCIATA, for the 2009 Season Opening along with Francesco Meli and Michele Pertusi; in this fortunate production she has been appreciated from both audience and critics for her talent in Verdi Heroines interpretation. At Las Palmas de Gran Canaria – Festival she interpreted the role of Elisabetta in ROBERTO DEVEREUX and in Lima, at Festival Alejandro Granda, the role of Odabella in ATTILA.
She further debuted the roles of AIDA at Herodes Attikus Theatre in Athens and in Florence, Giardino di Boboli, and of Santuzza in CAVALLERIA RUSTICANA at Herrenchiemsee Festival in Germany.
In October 2009 she came back to Parma where successfully interpreted the role of Abigaille in NABUCCO at the Verdi Festival, followed by her Japanese debut of AIDA. In December she had an acclaimed debut with Maestro Daniel Oren in Salerno with NABUCCO.
In January 2010 she will debut at ABAO in Bilbao with ERNANI (Elvira).

MARIA STUARDA will be her next debuting role at Teatro Massimo di Palermo, while she will be back with her repertoire in Theatres and Venues which will take her a.o. to Bilbao, Modena, Genova, Atene, Palermo, Israel, Macerata, Montrйal, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Lima, Parma, Bologna, Tokyo.
