Christian Thielemann was born in Berlin and began his career at the Deutsche Oper Berlin, where he was General Music Director from 1997 to 2004. Since 2004, he serves as General Music Director of the Munich Philharmonic.
He has made guest appearances at the most important opera houses in the world, such as the Vienna State Opera, the Metropolitan Opera in New York and the Royal Opera House Covent Garden in London. He also enjoys a close collaboration with the Festival Theatre in Baden-Baden.
At the Bayreuth Festival, Christian Thielemann has conducted “Die Meistersinger von Nьrnberg”, “Parsifal”, “Tannhдuser” and “Der Ring des Nibelungen”.
Christian Thieleman appears as guest with the Berlin and Vienna Philharmonic Orchestras, with the Staatskapelle in Dresden, the Koninklijk Concertgebouworkest in Amsterdam, the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra and the Philharmonia Orchestra in London; in the United States a regular collaboration links him with the orchestras in New York, Philadelphia and Chicago.
The Munich Philharmonic under the direction of Christian Thielemann has recorded a Bruckner cycle and various other works for UNITEL. Since 2008, he has worked on a Beethoven cycle with the Vienna Philharmonic, which will be released as a complete cyclic performance on DVD in 2010.
At the 2011 Salzburg Festival, Christian Thielemann will conduct “Die Frau ohne Schatten” by Richard Strauss.
Several symphonic works and operas under his direction have been released by Deutsche Grammophon.
