Edward Krotman was born in 1968 in Leningrad. He began to sing at the age of three and to play the violin at the age of six. In 1986 he graduated from the Choral School of the Leningrad State Glinka Cappella. From 1986–1988 he was conscripted into the Song and Dance Ensemble of the Leningrad Military Base. In 1992 he graduated with distinction from the St Petersburg Conservatoire, completing his trainee assistantship as a choral conductor two years later. In 1991 he received a diploma and a special prize at the International Choral Conducting Competition in Tallinn.
From 1994–1999 he was Principal Chorus Master of the St Petersburg Conservatoire Music Theatre. From 2000–2004 he was Artistic Director of the Smolny Cathedral Chorus.
From 1985 he was a chorus master at the St Petersburg University, while since 1994 he has been Artistic Director of the Students’ Chorus of the St Petersburg State University. Since 2007 he has also directed the Graduates’ Chorus.
In 2012 he graduated from the St Petersburg Conservatoire, specialising in opera and symphony music conducting.
Recipient of the medal of the order “For Services to the Fatherland”, 2nd class.
