Max Richter

Composer

Though classically trained at the University of Edinburgh, the Royal Academy of Music and with Luciano Berio, Max’s work explores the meeting points of many contemporary artistic languages. His work includes a series of acclaimed solo albums on cult indie label FatCat as well as concert music, ballet, opera and a number of award-winning film scores. Recent projects include Macbeth (currently on Broadway), the ballet Infra for Wayne McGregor at the Royal Ballet with designs by Julian Opie, the award-winning score to Ari Folman’s Waltz with Bashir, the opera SUM at the Royal Opera House and the installation The Anthropocene with Darren Almond for White Cube.

Max’s Vivaldi Recomposed for Deutsche Grammophon, recorded by British violinist Daniel Hope and the Konzerthausorchester Berlin, topped iTunes Classical Charts worldwide and is currently touring internationally. He has collaborated widely, including projects with Tilda Swinton, Hilary Hahn, Robert Wyatt, Future Sound of London, Roni Size and, most recently, rAndom International, whose work Rain Room set attendance records at London’s Barbican Centre and is currently showing at MOMA.

Recent examples include David Fincher’s The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, Clint Eastwood’s J. Edgar,Ridley Scott’s Prometheus and Terrence Malick’s To the Wonder.

Forthcoming projects include several film scores, a new work for the Royal Ballet and Wayne McGregor and a new solo album.
