Honoured Cultural Figure of the Republic of Kyrgyzstan.
Graduated from the drama theatre faculty of the Leningrad Institute of Theatre, Music and Cinema in 1972. Has worked as a stage director in Russian theatres in Petrozavodsk, Omsk, Vladimir and Murmansk. For eight seasons he was artistic and general director of the Russian Drama Theatre in Bishkek (Kyrgyzstan). In 1993 he became stage director of the Komissarzhevskaya Theatre. He has staged La dame aux camelias, Lovers` Suicide on the Island of Skynet and The Gambler at the Komissarzhevskaya Theatre and Teibele and Her Demon at the Theatre on Liteiny. In 1996 he was appointed general director and subsequently artistic director of the Lensoviet Theatre. At the Mariinsky Theatre he has staged Prokofiev`s opera Betrothal in a Monastery. He has also staged this work at the San Francisco Opera.
